INFORMATION COMMISSION IN INDIA The Information Commission is an independent statutory authority established under the Right to Information Act, 2005 (RTI Act) to ensure citizens' right to access information held by public authorities. 1. Types of Information Commissions There are two levels: Central Information Commission (CIC) – deals with matters relating to Central Government public authorities. State Information Commission (SIC) – deals with matters relating to State Government public authorities. 2. Central Information Commission The CIC was established under Section 12 of the RTI Act, 2005. It consists of: Chief Information Commissioner Information Commissioners, as provided by the Act.
