Central Information Commission (CIC) The Central Information Commission (CIC) is an independent statutory body established under the Right to Information Act, 2005 (RTI Act). 1. Establishment Established under the Right to Information Act, 2005. It became operational in 2005. Its headquarters is in New Delhi. 2. Composition The CIC consists of: Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Up to 10 Information Commissioners 3. Appointment The Chief Information Commissioner and Information Commissioners are appointed by the President of India. They are selected on the recommendation of a committee consisting of: Prime Minister – Chairperson Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha – Member Union Cabinet Minister nominated by the Prime Minister – Member 4.
