Kolasib, 6th September, 2023: Today, 35 students and 6 Lecturers incharge of Govt. C. Zakhuma Higher Secondary School, Kolasib went to clean the Tuilut River which is located at Bakpuk, Kolasib. They collected all kinds of non-decomposable objects like plastic bottles, containers, nylon nets etc. which makes the river dirty.

It is important to clean the Tuilut River since it is the main source of drinking water for the people of Kolasib Town. The collection of all those plastic waste blocks the normal flow of the river water which causes a huge problem for the people of the town. During the production of plastic, dangerous gases like ethylene oxide, benzene and xylene, etc are generated. Sewage treatment processes reduce the levels of pathogens and organics in wastewater, but they do not eliminate them completely.

Plastic waste can also cause a huge threat to human health like damaging the human's endocrine system. It can also lead to the production of many toxic gases. As a result, severe air pollution is produced which leads to cancer, inhibits physical development and causes terrible disease.

Many people or organisations like UD & PA Kolasib, Sub HQ. YMA, NSS/NCC, GCZHSS Kolasib volunteered cleaning the Tuichhuahen River which comes from the Tuilut River but it still continues to get contaminated.

We should be aware of the consequences of our actions. We may not be able to stop this action but we can control it by using the following ways:

1. Avoid using plastic bags or material made by plastic.

 2. Try to use its alternative methods like cloth bags, paper bags, etc.

3. Laws should be implemented to restrict its usage as well regarding its proper disposal. 

4. Innovative methods to treat industrial and public waste should be implemented.
